Newport Landing has been providing students with the whale watching experience for over 20 years. Each year over 400 schools from Los Angeles and the greater southern California region come out with Newport Landing on one of our whale watching trips. Although our trips are called “whale watching” as this is the most recognizable title, our trips cover a complete marine eco system and a unique environment that many students are exposed to for the first time. The “experience” as we like to think of it, provides endless opportunities for learning and growth. With the addition of an experienced California State Credentialed teacher, Tom Cunningham (also a California State Credentialed Administrator), a comprehensive learning program including pre and post trip work sheets unique to each grade level was implemented. Tom joined us over two years ago and his experience and expertise has been invaluable. The “Whale Watching Packet” will attest to Tom’s enthusiasm with over 50 pages of very diverse and stimulating worksheets. The Landing’s learning packets have been carefully created to follow the California State Instructional Standards. These teacher-friendly packets are available to all school groups joining us on our whale watching trips. Both teachers and students will love the variety of activities in our instructional packet. |

Tom’s California State Credentialed Administrative background has been invaluable with teachers that have had difficulty with budget concerns. Tom is more than happy to offer suggestions and recommendations on how to facilitate a whale watching experience and to make it as seamless as possible for teachers that are already hard pressed for valuable time. In addition to our whale watching packet all of our school groups are guaranteed sightings of whales, dolphins, and/or porpoises. Additionally seals, sea lions, fish and marine birds may also be observed and discussed. Our friendly and knowledgeable crew has been trained to share by discussion as well as visually guiding, the high points of the trip in an age and grade appropriate manner. With our experience the 10 am departure time is the most popular for our school groups. We do offer a 1pm departure time as well and give a price discount incentive for the 1 pm departure time. Our trips are 2 hours in length. See the below table for departure times and pricing. |
